How much time do you waste each year in traffic jams? A new survey by the Texas Transportation Institute says the average American spends 34 hours in congested traffic each year.
To put it in perspective, you could drive from New York City to El Paso, TX in 34 hours. You could orbit the earth 22 times in a Mercury capsule in 34 hours. The point is clear. The total amount of wasted fuel in 2009 topped 3.9 billion gallons – equal to 130 days of flow in the Alaska Pipeline. Our larger cities are a quagmire for wasted time and that is driving more and more people to smaller, more manageable cities.
Did I mention that my morning commute to work is 8 minutes?).
