2011 tips for building your social media community

Tony Treadway

We crossed the 28,000 number of likes recently on the Facebook site for one of our clients, Pal’s Sudden Service. Wondering how a restaurant chain with 23 units can have more likes per unit than most every restaurant chain in America? Here is how we are doing it and some tips for 2011:

1. Work the site every day. You must pay attention to your social media sites to grow them. Develop a long-term editorial calendar for posts that you will make that you think will be of interest to your existing customers or customers you would like to have and work the calendar each day.

2. Take it easy on the sales pitch. Everyone wants their social media investment to pay off in cash. Yes, we proved in 2010 that the Pal’s Facebook effort can move the needle in sales, but social media isn’t just about sales. Social media offers the opportunity to build loyalty and feedback from your customer base so take it easy on pitching a new product every day. Weave your sales message into your posts.

3. Use video posts on your site when possible. Make the videos entertaining with a sprinkling of information that can build sales. With video cameras that can easily be incorporated into your social media site costing less than $200, why not. People are more than 100% more likely to watch a video than to read a post so teach yourself how to make and post videos.

Try these three tips in 2011 and see your Facebook and other social media sites grow this year. Let us know if you need some help.
